Girls Soccer Wins District Title, Advances to State Final
The top-seeded Radnor High School girls soccer team finished an historic 2021 season by making the State Championship in Hershey on November 20, ultimately falling in overtime, 2-1, to Mars Area High School. The state championship appearance was the first since the team won the title in 1999 and followed the team's first District Championship since 2000, earned on Nov. 4 with 3-0 win over Villa Joseph Marie. The team was also the first Delaware County girls soccer team since Strath Haven in 2002 to play for the state title.
The members of the Radnor High School girls soccer team are:
- Seniors Devon Bernabeo, Kate Boujoukos, Julie Breedveld, Emily Daiutolo, Jane Daiutolo, Malie Dell'Orco, Emily Dressel, Anjali Engstrom, Lucy Henkel, Eva Hernandez, Olivia Kelley, Lucy Minning, Tellian Schwarz and Karis Whitcomb;
- Juniors Zoe Simone-Dobin, Sabina Eraso, Edy Mackenzie, Sydney O'Shea, and Lyla Wallis;
- Sophomores Sarah Kelley, Selah Koleth, Margaret Lebaudy, Sierra Perrin-Hee, Nina Serlenga, and Mallory Toomey;
- Freshmen Meara Balachandran, Ivy Chaskelson, and Olivia Jacobs.
The team is led by head coach Jake Solderitsch and assistant coaches Diana Anders, Fabio Bevilacqua, and Jim Merkins.
Adding to the team's accomplishments, Emily Daiutolo was recently selected to the All-State Team and named Delaware County Girls Soccer Player of the Year, and coach Jake Solderitsch was named the Pennsylvania AAA Girls Soccer Coach of the Year by the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association. Emily and Jake will be honored at the 2021 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association Honor and Awards Banquet in January.
The team was formally recognized by the RTSD School Board at its December 21, 2021 Business Meeting.
