18 RHS Juniors Honored at Annual Awards Ceremony

Eighteen Radnor High School juniors were honored with 25 academic awards at the annual Junior Awards Night on May 12 in the Radnor High School library. In addition to certificates of achievement, recipients received a book hand-selected and gifted by RHS principal PT Kevgas.

Eleanor Adams, Leon Chen, Caden Cleffi, Philip Joseph "PJ" Duffy, Guinevere Dunn, Elani Dwyer, Sabino Eraso, Stefanie Ferrara, Naomi Gross, Skyler Le, Lauren Kelley, Edith MacKenzie, Samantha Rosin, Andrew Sheehan, Zoe Simone-Dobin, Chris Tyburski, Mia Xie, and Lauren Yoo all received awards at the ceremony, which was attended by the awardees' families. Naomi Gross was unable to attend the event.

Award Recipients and Descriptions

A Better Chance Excellence Award: Elaini Dwyer and Stefanie Ferrara This award recognizes outstanding academic performance, contributions to Radnor High School's community and demonstrated leadership abilities.
 
Bausch and Lomb Science Award: Edith MacKenzie This award is presented to the outstanding science student in the junior class.
 
Brandeis College Book Award: Leon Chen This award is presented to a student in the top 10% of the junior class who demonstrates a commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice, or volunteer work.
 
Bryn Mawr College Book Award: Zoe Simone-Dobin This award is presented to a student who demonstrates an intense intellectual commitment, a self-directed and purposeful vision of his/her life, and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to the world.
 
Colgate University Book Award: Lauren Kelley This award is presented to a student who has achieved high academic distinction, ranking in the top five to ten percent of the class while undertaking a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, combined with outstanding leadership in the school or community.

Cornell University Book Award: Edith MacKenzie This award is presented to a student in the top ten percent of the junior class who has demonstrated creative problem solving in the arts and sciences or whose commitment to service shows a concern for global issues.

Drexel University Book Award: Guinevere Dunn This award is presented to a student who is enrolled in a rigorous academic program, is in the top 10% of the class and is a recognized leader in community service, environmental affairs, student government, athletics, journalism, technology/science or performing arts, demonstrates high personal and academic integrity, and is highly respected by peers and faculty.

Hamilton College Book Award: Emily Holtz This award is presented to an outstanding student who is in the top 10% of the junior class and who has demonstrated, primarily through class work, excellence in communicating ideas both in written and oral form.

Harvard University Book Award: Naomi Gross This award is presented to the outstanding student in the junior class who combines excellence in scholarship with achievement in other fields. The purpose is to recognize breadth of interest as well as scholastic achievements.

Gettysburg College Book Award: Skyler Le This award recognizes a student who evidences a dedication to scholarship and a passion for learning.
 
The Julian M. Zekan Integrity Award: Andrew Sheehan This award is presented to a student who exemplifies integrity, modesty, compassion for others, courage of conviction, and surmounts daily obstacles without complaint or self-pity but with integrity and a sense of humor.

French Award: Edith MacKenzie This award is presented to a student who excels in French.

German Award: Naomi Gross This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated a love for all things German, the language, its culture, history and literature.
 
Latin Award: Skyler Le and Lauren Yoo This award is presented to a student for his/her enthusiasm and hard work in the study of Latin and Roman culture.

Spanish Award: Eleanor Adams and Mia Xie This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated a strong dedication to the study of the language and a true interest in Hispanic culture.

Princeton Club of Philadelphia Book Award: Philip Joseph "PJ" Duffy This award is presented to a high honors student in the junior class who has provided exemplary student community service.

Randolph-Macon College Book Award: Sabino Eraso This award is presented to a student who excels scholastically and is also a well-rounded individual who is an active participant in extracurricular activities.

Rensselaer Medal Award: Skyler Le This award is presented to a student who has displayed the most outstanding achievement in mathematics and science.

Saint Anselm College Book Award: Caden Cleffi This award is presented to a student who exercises academic achievement, has an awareness of social responsibility, displays leadership qualities and possesses strong character.
 
Smith College Book Award: Mia Xie This award is presented to a student in the junior class for academic excellence; active involvement with and service to the community - with school and community at large; demonstrated leadership; sense of inner strength and self-assurance.

Society of Women Engineers Award: Samantha Rosin, Eleanor Adams and Zoe Simone-Dobin This award is presented to the student(s) with the highest honor in math and science. 

St. John’s College Award: Samantha Rosin This award is presented to a student in recognition of a love of reading, exemplary enthusiasm for learning, and eagerness to pursue understanding through discussion.
 
University of Pennsylvania Book Award: Samantha Rosin This award is presented to a student of “true merit” who ranks within the top five or 10 percent of the junior class and is a leader in one or more of the following areas: student government, music, drama, athletics, journalism, civics, forensics or community service. The student should demonstrate high personal academic integrity and be highly respected by peers and faculty.

Williams College Book Award: Chris Tyburski This award is presented to the student in the top of his/her junior class who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and has made a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the school.
 
Yale University Book Award: Eleanor Adams This award is presented to a student for outstanding personal character and intellectual promise, who is active in extracurricular activities in the school community.
