School Counseling

Counselors serve students, parents/guardians, and teachers in all elementary and secondary schools. Parents, the press, administrators and the general public often wonder just what it is that school counselors do on a daily basis. Gone are the days of school counselors sitting in their office simply handing out college applications, making schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or meeting with the trouble makers in the school.

Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

K-12 School Counseling Plan (Chapter 339)

Pennsylvania requires all school districts to have a K-12 School Counseling Plan as part of Chapter 339. This plan addresses the importance of career planning for all students related to labor market projections and workforce needs.

Radnor Township School District’s K-12 School Counseling Plan aligns with the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Academic Standards for Career Education and Work.

There are four main standards concentrations categories: Career Awareness and Preparation (discovering self-awareness, interests and relationships), Career Acquisition (getting a job), Career Retention and Advancement (keeping a job), and Entrepreneurship (creating a job).

Why is the K-12 School Counseling Plan (Chapter 339) important?

In accordance with the district's mission statement, the K-12 School Counseling Plan will aid the district’s school counselors' efforts in helping students focus on academic, career and social/emotional development throughout their elementary and secondary school experience. This working document will support the efforts of the district as we empower students to discover and pursue their individual passions with knowledge, confidence, and caring to shape the future.
