Student Assistance Program

The Radnor High School Student Assistance Program (SAP) consists of administrators, counselors, school psychologists, school nurse, social worker, and selected teachers. All team members have been trained and are SAP certified. RHS SAP team members are trained to identify problems, determine whether or not the presenting problem lies within the responsibility of the school, and to make recommendations to assist the student and the parent. All team members are required to maintain confidentiality throughout the process.

Students may be referred to RHS SAP for a variety of reasons including the following: emotional concerns, drug and alcohol concerns, attendance and behavioral concerns, discipline or policy violations, academic concerns, and/or medical concerns. Please see the Referral Form located under Forms.

Once permission is obtained, the RHS SAP team will gather data regarding the student’s functioning within the building to better understand the referral. The goal of the RHS SAP team is to work with students and families to offer support and recommendations. Where barriers to a student’s academic success are beyond the scope of the school, the RHS SAP team can provide information so families may access community resources and services.

Four Phases of the RHS SAP Process

  1. Referral – A referral to RHS SAP can be made by anyone who is concerned about a student and his/her behavior. In addition, students can refer themselves directly to the RHS SAP team to ask for help. The RHS SAP team will then contact the parent for permission to proceed with the RHS SAP process.
  2. Team Planning – The RHS SAP team gathers objective information about the student’s performance in school from teachers who have contact with the student. The team discusses data collected with the parent and also meets with the student. The RHS SAP team develops a plan that includes strategies for removing the learning barriers.
  3. Intervention and Recommendations – The RHS SAP team plan is put into action. The team assists in linking the student to in-school and/or community-based services and activities, or psychologist assessment.
  4. Support and Follow-Up – The RHS SAP team continues to work with and support the student and their family.
